Southern Chocolate Gravy-Biscuits recipe really brings me back to my childhood. Every time I mention Southern Chocolate Gravy to people they don’t know what the heck I’m talking about. Mom used to make SOS gravy (browned hamburger mixed with a cream gravy similar to sausage gravy) for the adults, oh i just couldn’t tolerate that stuff.
I remember mom making the kids sit at the table and telling us we could not get up until we finished our plates.
There were many of morning that I sat at the breakfast table forever with my plate un touched.
To my surprise one morning my mom prepared “Chocolate Gravy” and Buttermilk Biscuits. From that day on my mother made SOS for adults and that chocolaty gravy for the kids.

These are the ingredients you will need: Flour, sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, butter or margarine, vanilla extract and milk (not pictured, sorry about that) start by adding all the dry ingredients to a medium sized pot.

add milk using a whisk combine the dry ingredients with the milk. Continue…

Old Fashioned & Country Style Cooking: Southern Sausage Gravy & Skillet Biscuits Buttermilk Biscuits and Sausage Gravy. I don’t think any dish can get anymore southern than that. I was raised on sausage or hamburger gravy (SOS) poured over piping hot homemade biscuits. We love it so much that it occasionally graces our dinner table as well.

If you have never made sausage gravy from scratch I hope you’ll give it a try.

Start off by preparing and baking a batch of homemade skillet buttermilk biscuits. While the biscuits are baking let’s get started on the sausage gravy. Crumble and cook sausage in large skillet over medium heat until browned. If the sausage does not render enough drippings you can add 2-3 tablespoon of shortening or bacon grease.  For recipe & directions continue reading…

Old Fashioned & Country Style Cooking: The Pioneer Womans Cinnamon Rolls made these wonderful bad boys for Christmas morning. One of the kiddos wanted cinnamon rolls, who am I to disappoint, I know I’m a push over.

I prepared the cinnamon roll dough on Christmas Eve. I let the dough do it’s first rise, rolled it out then added all the butter, cinnamon sugar and rolled it up. Sliced them up and placed the rolls into their pans and in the refrigerator they went till morning (covered with plastic wrap).
In the morning I removed the cinnamon rolls from the refrigerator and placed them in a warm place to rise. I usually place my yeast breads or rolls in the oven with the oven light on and place a bowl of hot water on the very bottom rack. This process works out perfectly every time and the rolls rise up beautifully.
While the rolls were rising we opened gifts and by the time we were done the rolls were ready to bake.

I think the next time I make this recipe I will freeze a tray or two for another day. We had plenty of leftovers, but that is OK my little guy was still enjoying these wonderful cinnamon rolls today.

If you haven’t tried out the PW Cinnamon Rolls I highly recommend it because this recipe ROCKs! PW Cinnamon Roll Recipe
